My fears for Jonathan

Former President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and incumbent President of the Conference of Ethnic Nationalities of the Niger Delta (CENND), Prof Kimse Okoko has expressed fears over the Jonathan Presidency.

Okoko, a Professor of Political Science in an exclusive interview in Port Harcourt said the Nigerian structure controlled by dominant powers would not allow Jonathan who is of the minority to effect fundamental changes needed to move the country forward.
While identifying the National Assembly as the place those opposed to Jonathan would seek to frustrate him, he enjoined the President to forge ahead with all his intentions for the people to see his attempts at transforming the country.

Among other issues, he pleaded with Jonathan to discontinue his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as he cannot learn any good thing from him
Excerpts…

Jonathan as President
My role in the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta stems from my commitment to fight against injustice. This has not divested the nationalism in me. I am a nationalist and I am being honest. I have fought against oppression and fought against internal colonialism that is practiced in Nigeria, and decades of neglect of the minority. I have fought against the exploitation of our resources and a constitution that only recognizes three ethnic groups in the Nigeria. The 1999 constitution only recognizes three selected groups. How can you not speak out against a document that recognizes three languages and you want the rest to be happy to fight for national unity? This even went to the extent of tribalizing and ethniczing the national currency. The national currency has Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa/ Fulani, the rest don’t matter in this country. And this is doing tremendous damage to our attempts to unify this country.

A minority President in this country would not be able to effect the fundamental changes Nigeria need. This is because those who wield dominating power would not allow the minority President to make the changes he desires. It is unfortunate. And you are already seeing it in the National Assembly, where the President wanted somebody else and those that wielded power said no. There are more things coming in that direction. It is unfortunate. I am not euphoric about an Ijaw being President. I am happy it happened because it put paid to any lingering illusionary thinking of the oligarchy that they would continue to rule.

Jonathan yet to show signs of governance –Saror

In spite of ICPC, EFCC and other organs, the fight against corruption has not started. The fight against corruption has to be intensified. If it is not, we are not going to get off the ground. We cannot improve on our roads when the people doing the

Alleged Buhari's Crocodile-Tears & April Presidential Polls vs US ...

US-president (First black president). Obama later appointed Hillary Clinton as US-Secretary of State.

Meanwhile, Buhari’s purported tears have been labeled as “Crocodile-tears” by political pundits in similitude to alleged Hillary Clinton’s hypocritical tears in 2008, as she sought public-sympathy and vote.

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari addressing a press conference today, said:

“Ladies and gentlemen, in the life of any nation there comes a time when some people have to stand up and point out when things are moving off track, explain why they are going wrongly, demonstrate how they can be set aright, and work towards making a difference.

“For Nigeria, that time has come and it is now; and the people to stand up are you and me! Second, let me state categorically that I am not in this race to advance or protect any vested interest or group.

“We are seeking to replace a government that has done so much havoc to its people and their reputation; and we are determined, with your help, to uproot them completely. By the grace of God, Nigeria is going through its last few weeks of arbitrary non-accountable, corrupt governance—the type that has turned it into a republic of thieves.”

Curiously, Buhari’s political chances were damaged by his past military record, anachronistic oppressive rules against the media industry in Nigeria; his 1984 hypocritical overthrow of  Shagari civilian administration, placing former president Shagari in air-conditioned property in Ikoyi, & placed former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme in maximum Kirikiri prison was height of hypocrisy as demonstrated in Prof. Wole Soyinka’s article widely published/read in many media outfits titled: “Crimes of Buhari” explained the dilemma facing Buhari’s political ambitions in his purported second-coming.

“….Nor must we omit the manner of Buhari coming to power and the pattern of his corrective rule. Shagari’s NPN had already run out of steam and was near universally detested except of course by the handful that still benefited from that regime of profligacy and rabid fascism. Responsibility for the national condition lay squarely at the door of the ruling party, obviously, but against whom was Buharis coup staged? Judging by the conduct of that regime, it was not against Shagaris government but against the opposition. The head of government, on whom primary responsibility lay, was Shehu Shagari. Yet that individual was kept in cozy house detention in Ikoyi while his powerless deputy, Alex Ekwueme, was locked up in Kiri-kiri prisons. Such was the Buhari notion of equitable apportionment of guilt and/or responsibility”. Soyinka added.
