Kicking Cancer One Strut at a Time
The Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station, Haddam to the radiant energy of cosmic proportions Thursday as hundreds of the most beautiful women stronger, more courageous and beautiful in New England filled the house and was beautiful to do so.
Each and every one of them the confidence and beams off a fierce passion for life. They are, after all, survivors of breast cancer, and it was their night for fun, fashionable - fundraising - and sexy.
A sold-out crowd came to watch the parade of art Bra, set up by After the Storm Inc., a nonprofit organization founded by Christine Willett of Middlefield.
Willett, a breast cancer survivor herself, the organization created to help alleviate the cost of treatment for cancer survivors and create a network of support and healing.
Willett was diagnosed with breast cancer stage IIB in 2009 at age 30, when she was pregnant with her son, Chase.
"It does not come into your kingdom, because you do not think it happens to you," said Willett, who underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy, clinical trials, reflexology and various drugs when she gave birth to his son.
After helping raise money for Life After the Storm, a documentary about a woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer, Willett said she was inspired to start after the storm Inc. so that it can help others cope and live through this ordeal.
The parade of art Bra is one of fundraisers most popular of the organization.
Last night, over 400 guests packed the Riverhouse to bid on unique bra, designed by local residents and groups and modeled by volunteers brave enough to walk on the track in his underwear.
A bra went for $ 725 and no bids were below $ 200.Each groove had a theme with a song that goes with it.
