Teen Electrocuted In Cable Theft Attempt

The teenager's body was discovered by a security guard at the site in Stourton, Leeds on Monday.

The company which runs the facility said an attempt had been made to remove copper components from a section of underground cable.

In a statement, CE Electric UK said: "In this incident a youth died after attempting to steal copper components from our network.

"We cannot stress enough how dangerous it is to tamper with electrical equipment on the network."

Despite the dangers, the firm says it deals with an average of four metal thefts each day. Previous attempts had caused damage to the power network and left thousands of customers without power.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed three youths were interviewed under caution following the incident but none were arrested.
