Fourth Parade of Homes kicks off Saturday

This weekend is the fourth annual Catawba/Marblehead Parade of Homes. Hours of the tour will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Last year’s Parade of Homes resulted in at least four sales, so it was extremely successful. Yes, that was me doing the commercials on Channel 11 in Toledo. I still say I have a “face for radio”! Mary Ann Snider of the Ballet School is putting together a “Flash Mob,” which is a spontaneous dance that happens in an undisclosed public place. Only the dancers will know when and where it is going to happen. It is a You Tube and internet phenomenon. They are rehearsing every Wednesday in July. They need men, women and children of all ages to participate to make this the biggest flash mob in Ottawa County history! No previous dance experience is necessary. Patricia Thursby, of Port Clinton, is our “Find Wylie” winner this week. She found our friendly fish in the ad for Underwood’s on page 4A in last week’s Beacon. Patricia wins a $20 gift card from Friendship Food Stores. We’ll be hiding Wylie again next week. Catawba Moorings is hosting “Dockers with Donations” to help the Salvation Army this weekend July 8-10. There will be a food bank donation drive in the clubhouse for non-perishable foods, a 50/50 raffle and a raffle of a University of Toledo football raffle to include 2 tickets to the October 22 Miami game, seating and dinner for two in a loge with a parking pass. They are also having a boat show at Catawba Moorings this weekend as well.     Caitlyn Mortus, a teenager from the Houston area, who we have talked about before in this column, is now the winner of the prestigious Jefferson Award. She is the granddaughter of Bob and Carol Mortus, of Port Clinton. Caitlyn is now 15 and was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma two years ago. She now spends many of her Saturday afternoons visiting with children in the Houston area who are fighting cancer, trying to help make their journey a little easier. She created an organization called Keep Kids Connected to aid in that mission.

THE LIMO WORE WHITE: Sparks and flames fly after the ceremony. At least the marriage has lasted longer than the limo.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo couple, Ronnie and Kim Hawkins, escaped their wedding limousine that caught on fire over the weekend.

The couple was driving down the Anthony Wayne trail on their way to take wedding pictures when the car began filling with smoke.

They pulled over and say just as everyone got out of the car that the limo burst into flames. No one was injured.

The couple did send WTOL-TV a “See It, Snap It, Send” It photo of the flaming white Chrysler 300 stretch limousine. The name of the operating company was unavailable.
