MLB All-Star Game: On-a-budget fans can find bargains

Before becoming as ubiquitous as Donald Trump, Rachel Ray, the cooking show host-turned-author-turned-traveler-turned-talk-show-maven, had a television show called "$40 a Day."

In the show, Ray would eat three meals in a new town for under $40, complete with dessert or maybe a nightcap.

We suggest you do the same this weekend, but with sports, and using ticket resale sites like Stubhub.com .

You'll spend a bit more than 24 hours in Phoenix, and be back home in plenty of time to watch the All-Star Game on Tuesday. And it'll be under $40, at least in terms of admission. Here's how:

Stop 1: Fanfest

Where: Phoenix Convention Center

When: From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday

Cost: $3 on Stubhub.com

What to do: Billed as the world's greatest baseball-theme park, Fanfest features card and memorabilia shows in addition to unique fan experiences. Our favorite: an opportunity to sit in a broadcast booth and call, with your partner, some of the great moments in baseball history. They'll email you the final product when you suggest Dennis Eckersley should walk Kirk Gibson in the 1988 World Series, or look like a genius when Gibson hits the walk-off dinger.

Don't miss: Fields of Play - where you learn about the maintenance and science behind the best-manicured grass setups in the game.

Stop 2: XM All-Star Futures Game

Where: Chase Field

When: 3 p.m. Sunday

Cost: $1.44 for infield reserve seats on Stubhub.com

What to do: Are you a hard-core baseball nerd? Gawk at some of the game's hottest prospects in the Futures Game, which pits the Mike Piazza-coached American team versus Luis Gonzalez's World team. The Tucson Padres' James Darnell was selected to play for the U.S.

Those who don't know their wOBA from their elbow can stick around for the Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, which pits athletes, singers, TV stars and models against each other.

Don't miss: Bryce Harper, the Nationals star outfielder of the future, who will be the hottest thing at Chase Field this side of the softball-playing "Glee" kids.

Stop 3: State Farm Home Run Derby

Where: Chase Field

When: 5 p.m. Monday

Cost: $33 for outfield reserve

What to do: Arrive early, around 2 p.m., to hunt for autographs while watching players work out. Then pull out your glove and get ready for the home run balls. The National League will send the Brewers' Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks, the Dodgers' Matt Kemp and the Cardinals' Matt Holliday to the plate. The American League boasts Boston's David Ortiz and Adrian Gonzalez, Toronto's Jose Bautista and the New York Yankees' Robinson Cano.

Guy Fieri and Rachel Ray Announce Joint Cooking Show

The phrase “Sister from another mister” is exactly what I would expect Guy Fieri to use. Not a guy like him–just him. The douchiest phrase for the douchiest possible creature. It encapsulates all the loathing I have when I see his stupid face.

+1 to all those above me; Guy/Rachael hate is even better than Paul Reiser hate. Well played, internet.
